Personal Statement
Marie Angeles, (she/her) Director for EDIC, North Seattle College, is passionate about facilitating change in individuals and organizations to create a more just world. Marie has nearly a decade of experience in higher education and nonprofit organizations. For the last five and a half years, Marie worked at the University of Washington collaborating closely with students, faculty, and staff in recruiting and admissions, student affairs, community engagement, and teaching and curriculum. During her time at the university, she emphasized promoting a diverse and inclusive campus environment, particularly for the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance where she was the Director of Student Services & Career Development.
As part of her service to the university, Marie partnered with colleagues to develop a tri-campus diversity summit for staff, a national graduate school fair, a tri-department training for faculty in service to the community, and engaged departments across campus in their equity and inclusion work. In recognition of her contributions, she was one of 20 staff selected for the UW Distinguished Staff Awards in 2021 out of 500+ nominations.
Marie is a trained facilitator in the Art of Hosting methodology and a Qualified Administrator in the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). She holds a BA in English and Philosophy from Scripps College and a Master's degree in Higher Education with a concentration in Student Access and Success at the University of Michigan. She is currently a board member for Summer Seattle, an organization that empowers young people to discover their purpose. As an alumna of the organization, Summer Search is near and dear to her heart.
