Personal Statement
I have a PhD and a Masters in English from the University of Washington- Seattle. My primary research interest is in the Environmental Humanities. I am particularly interested in representations of environmental justice issues in literature. Topics for classes I teach often address include climate change, ecology, race, class, racial capitalism, colonialism and imperialism. I am interested in the ways in which climate change and environmental degradation disproportionately effect BIPOC communities, but more importantly, I am interested in the ways in which environmental policies, science and communication can often disregard BIPOC communities. I have been teaching a variety of composition classes in the English department at the University of Washington since 2015 before joining South Seattle College as a part time lecturer in Fall of 2019. In addition to teaching English composition and literature, I have been a part-time instructor with the Program on the Environment at the University of Washington since Winter 2019 where I teach ENVIR 200: Communication for Environmental Studies.
