Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Kou Hang  

I am a Retention Specialist with Seattle Promise at South Seattle College. I am Hmong American and a first-generation college student. My parents were refugees from the Secret War in Laos. The lack of education and difficulties in navigating a new country for my parents provided many challenges to overcome in my life. The identities and experiences I hold are the reasons why I chose to work with Seattle Promise. I strive to make college more accessible and help students make informed decisions on their academic and career goals. As a Retention Specialist, I am here to support Seattle Promise students through advising on course enrollment, educational planning, funding resources and academic concerns.
