Return to Campus: In-Person Instruction Plan

As we all know, the fall schedule has eight hybrid English classes--5 on main campus and 3 at New Holly. For both main campus and New Holly, we must submit a "return-to-campus" safety plan that illustrates how we will safely hold in-person instruction in compliance with COVID-19 standards.

All faculty are invited to an optional meeting--one at main campus and one at New Holly--to help develop our in-person instructional practices. We will discuss class caps, social distancing, mask-wearing, and other safety measures. The goal is to develop one set of standards, ideally for both campuses, so all faculty and students can support each other in setting norms and holding each other to our standards.

The meeting to develop the Return to Campus safety plan for main campus will take place on Wednesday, July 21 at 1pm, meeting in the BTS lobby. The meeting for New Holly will take place on Thursday, July 22 at 1pm, meeting in the New Holly lobby.

Please let John know if you plan to attend. If you are attending, you will need to request permission to go to campus at least two days in advance.

Housekeeping

  • Please drop your no-show students.
  • Please check your rosters. With the exception of any last minute changes, rosters should be right.
  • Faculty should receive their pay on July 9. Please let the office ASAP if there's a problem with your pay.
  • Enjoy the holiday weekend, and remember no school on Monday.
  • Friday, August 20 is the last day of summer quarter.

English L3 and L4 faculty wanted for summer

UPDATE: The message below is old. I have found two faculty to take these assignments. Thanks!

I need to find two faculty for summer quarter. One will teach evenings English L3, and the other evenings English L4. Because it's summer quarter, I can assign this class to someone from South who is already teaching this summer.

So if you are interested/willing to take one of these two sections--even if you're already teaching this summer--please let me know ASAP. Please also share this information with anyone who might be looking for an assignment.

I will give priority to anyone in district without any assignment, then South faculty who want this as a second summer class, and finally anyone outside of South and the district. We're hoping to avoid having to hire a new faculty, as the on-boarding process in ctcLink might mean that the person wouldn't get paid until quite late.

Latest fall schedule

Click here (opens in a new tab) for the latest fall schedule. As a reminder:

  • We have a mix of hybrid and 100% remote offerings for fall.
  • John will follow up with the hybrid faculty soon to create "return to campus" safety plans.
  • The safety plans--and possibly mix of remote and hybrid/in-person classes--could change over the summer based on any forthcoming changes to our COVID-19 safety protocols.

More to come!

Welding I-BEST instructor wanted

As you might notice on the fall schedule, I will be looking for a new Welding I-BEST instructor. Daphne Guericke has served in this role since the beginning of the Welding I-BEST, but she has asked to return to the non-I-BEST English classes. If you are interested in teaching the Welding I-BEST, email John

A couple of ctcLink tips

  • Faculty rosters are located in Faculty Center. Student information includes empl ID, name, course subject and catalog number, student status (Freshman, Sophomore), email and canvas messages.
  • Faculty can find a student's phone number by going to Student Lookup and search by name.  You can only search by individual student.
