Personal Statement

A full time Counseling faculty at North Seattle College, I teach Human Development Courses (HDC) through the Counseling Department. With over 20 plus years experience in higher education, I've worked in several APA accredited four year University Counseling Centers, providing individual counseling to college students. My work is entrenched in UCLA neuropsychologist - Daniel Siegel's work, who found that life success is associated with the strength of 3 R’s: Reflection, Relationship, and Resilience. In my work with students, I focus on the relational aspects our interaction, creating experiences that evokes reflections to deepen one's internal processes to empower students to elicit change and improve their situation. By providing high support, structure, and encouragement, students feel motivated, inspired, and engaged to succeed, thereby developing grit, resilience, and persistence which have been found to be the best predictor for success. Outside of my professional life, I lived abroad during my early years before settling in Seattle. Fluent in French, I speak conversational Cantonese. During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, and exploring different cuisines.
