Personal Statement
I have been an Instructor at North Seattle College since 2004. I am the instructor for Music Appreciation (MUSC 105.D1 [online]), Introduction to World Music (MUSC 110.D1 [online]; MUSC 110.H2 [hybrid, Winter only]), Music in the United States (MUSC 113.D1 [online]), and Music Fundamentals (MUSC 125.D1 [online]), as well as an Individual Music Instructor in voice (MUSC 130, Section 02-LEC). Past courses included Beginning Group Instruction in voice (MUSC 119; no longer scheduled).
I have a Bachelors in Music from Florida State University, a Masters from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Washington (2012) [diss., Russian Lyric Diction: A Practical Guideā¦]. I have a thorough background in Music History, Music Literature, World Music, basic Music Theory, as well as special emphases in Early Music, Opera, 20th Century Music, Vocal Literature (Art Song), and Electronic Music. I have over 20 years of experience in teaching voice at many levels of skill.
I am an active, professional, opera singer with over 37 years of performance experience. I have sung principal roles with Seattle Opera, Tacoma Opera, Pacific Northwest Opera, and Lyric Opera Northwest. And, I have been a member of the Regular Chorus with Seattle Opera, since 2003. I also have sung in choral groups for background scores to games, including Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void.
