Personal Statement

Cate O’dahl started with North Seattle College in 2009 as a part-time instructor in the Real Estate Department developing the Green Real Estate certificate courses. She is a passionate promoter, organizer, and educator of green building. Since 1990 she has worked developing programs supporting the establishment of green building in the mainstream marketplace. In 2010 she was honored with the Built Green Pioneer Award due, in part, to her commitment creating curriculum for deep green Real Estate education. Cate worked as a consultant in addition to being a part-time instructor at North. In that capacity, she has served as Managing Editor of the Green Pages for the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild since 2002, Project Manager for the Built Green® manual updates for King and Snohomish Counties, Editorial Manager for the Nisqually Watershed Building Guide in collaboration with the Stewardship Partners, and Guest Publisher for the Sustainable Living Guide for Seattle Natural Awakenings, in 2014 and 2015. Cate served for three years as the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Sustainable Development Task Force in Snohomish County, increasing awareness and opportunities for sustainable development in this rural and growing county, especially for low impact development. Cate was one of the first graduates of the Sustainable Building Advisor Certificate Program at Seattle Central and has a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara. From 2015-2018, Cate served as the Real Estate Program Coordinator at North, increasing enrollments and completions. Her greatest accomplishment in this position is to have successfully created the Real Estate transfer degree and updated all of the certificates in the program. In March 2018, she took the position of Program Advisor for the newly created Business Bachelor’s programs: International Business and Residential and Commercial Property Management, serving as the lead advisor for students entering the new Bachelor’s programs.

Since 2018, Cate has been serving as the Program Advisor for the Business Bachelor programs, including International Accounting, International Business, and Property Management.  She also continues to teach RES 130 Green Real Estate.
