Personal Statement
I have been having fun learning Sociology since I took my first Sociology course at NSC from Dr. Bob Atkins. That course was the beginning of a completely different chapter in my life, and I've been thinking like a sociologist ever since. The fullness and clarity that the Sociological Perspective brings to the understanding and interpretation of our human experiences fascinates me, and I know that it will enrich your world view too!
I began teaching Sociology at the University of Washington -- Seattle campus. There, I taught Introduction to Sociology, Deviance and Social Control, and Criminology. I learned a lot about teaching in the university setting, but I felt my heart jump when I learned about an opportunity to teach at NSC. To be able to work at the College that changed my life is a privilege and an honor, and it brings me great joy! Northies are the best! The only thing that could have made life better at that point happened when I married my best friend and partner in October of that same year. After a few years of fun at North, I took a year off to teach at Green River College in Auburn, but I am ecstatic to have made the return trip to NSC. I have been having a blast teaching and learning from North's awesome students ever since!
Other things I like to share with folks are that I'm a Seattle native (born on Capitol Hill), I've worked at a bunch of Seattle institutions like Dick's Drive-In, Ken's Market and Tully's Coffee, and am owned by the world's best dog (I'm biased). I love music in most forms, kayaking at Greenlake in the summer, and food -- my current fave to cook at home is grilled salmon with cilantro lime butter. Jerk chicken with red beans and coconut rice is a close second.
