Personal Statement
Hello. My name is Veronica Villarreal (she / her pronouns) and I’m an Exploratory & Career Specialist in First Year & Career Services. I’m a first-generation college student and the proud daughter of Mexican-American parents. I’ve worked at Seattle Central College since 2012, beginning as an ESL teacher in the Seattle Central Institute of English and in Basic and Transitional Studies. I began working in FYCS in 2018. Before entering the education field, I worked for 20-plus years at newspapers as a copy editor. I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, and a master’s degree to teach English as a second language from the University of Washington.
I’m proud to work in Student Services where I connect with a wide variety of students every day. I firmly believe in providing a safe, inviting space for students to share their experiences and stories, their anxieties and fears as well as their hopes and dreams. My goal is to help students make a confident, informed decision about their career goals based on their interests, strengths, skills and passions. Thank you.
