Personal Statement

Hello, I'm Olivia Drake and I serve as a student retention specialist in the Seattle Promise program at Seattle Central College. I was born and raised in South Seattle and was once a student at Seattle Central myself! The nurturance I received while enrolled in a certificate program gave me the optimism and assurance to focus forward and pursue future goals. I enjoy learning and creativity, so I ventured on to explore the world of post-secondary education through visual communication. I hold an MFA in Graphic Design, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Media Studies, both from Howard University in Washington, D.C. I have taught, advised, and mentored students from all backgrounds and have seen extraordinary outcomes. Now, my efforts continue as I work with a compassionate team to help Seattle Promise students reach their academic goals.

In my spare time, I enjoy drawing, sewing/fashion, reading and cinema. I also love visiting art museums.
