ESL 1 Supplemental Course Outline (Click here)
The course outline provides the learning outcomes of the class. It also provides other information such as the class cap, the course description, and pre-requisites. The learning outcomes are critical, however, because you are required to design your class to meet these outcomes. Please note that all ESL classes include digital literacy outcomes in addition to those focused on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar. You will be assigned computer lab time where you can teach your students to meet these outcomes.
Sample Syllabi
You are required to create a syllabus for every class you teach and to provide a copy of the syllabus to the dean. You can turn in your syllabus through the BTS Faculty CANVAS page. These syllabi are provided to you as samples.

Syllabi Requirements for Canvas (remote learning)
Faculty who are teaching online or hybrid classes must include specific language in their syllabi describing how attendance hours will be recorded for students. Faculty can choose:
Teacher Verification: Assignments have a pre-determined number of hours stated in the syllabus that will be awarded to the extent that the teacher verifies that the student completed the work.
Learner Mastery: Assignments have a pre-determined number of hours stated in the syllabus that will be awarded based on the students' mastery of the content. For example, 70% or higher mastery may result in full hours awarded.

Student Evaluation Forms
The faculty agreement (6.10.C) states that faculty will conduct quarterly student evaluations. You can access an ESL 1 evaluation form by clicking here. You can also create your own evaluation form as long as it asks students to provide input on your strengths, areas for improvement, and general feedback.
