Georgetown

13 of 14 (93%) faculty supported re-opening Georgetown in winter 2022. Four faculty did not respond.

Faculty concerns

The factors that faculty expressed concerns about were pretty evenly spread across all the options.

Faculty concerns

Blue: Faculty choosing their preferred modality.

Orange: Student vaccinations

Green: Faculty/staff vaccinations

Red: Clear guidance for maintaining health and safety

Purple: Support for maintaining health and safety

Brown: Other

The two "other" comments discussed student vaccinations and whether classrooms can have multiple entries to more safely manage foot traffic.

Times and frequency of in-person and Zoom instruction

The survey also asked about how many times per week faculty would offer in-person or Zoom instruction as well as what standard time would be set for the day and evening sessions. These results varied quite a bit. Highlights included:

  • 9 of 13 (69%) faculty stated that the morning instruction should include 2 days in-person and 2 days Zoom. Five faculty choose not to respond. 7 of 13 (54%) indicated that 10 am was the best start time. 5 faculty did not respond.
  • 7 of 17 (41%) faculty stated that evening instruction should include 3 days of Zoom. 6 of 17 (35%) stated 2 days, and 4 of 17 (24%) stated four days.

As I stated elsewhere, I see a meaningful difference between the daytime faculty providing 4 days/week of synchronous instruction and the evening faculty providing 3 nights/week. I'm seeking input from full time faculty to help me decide on a standard. I'm not inclined to have evenings only provide 2 nights/week, as that would further increase the difference between our day and evening synchronous offerings.
