COMMON REGISTRATION QUESTIONS FOR APPRENTICES

(1) I don't know my Student ID Number. How can I get it?

Answer: You can retrieve your student identification and personal identification numbers by logging into the MySouth Student Portal. Click on the log-in icon in the top right corner and then click on "Retrieve My SID". You will be asked to provide your email address associated with your student record. You will also be asked to answer your previously selected security question.

Contact the Registration Office if you are unable to access your student identification and personal identification numbers through the MySouth Student Portal. Apprentices can also contact me directly via email or phone. I will ask several security questions to verify your identity.

(2) What is my PIN (Personal Identification Number)?

Answer: Your PIN is initially established by the college at admissions and is set to your birthdate in MMDDYY format. Update your PIN for increased records security.

(3) How can I register for classes online?

Answer: You'll need your SID, PIN, and the Item Number for the apprenticeship class that you are registering for. Once you have this information, then follow these steps below:

Here’s the link to register for classes: MySouth account

  1. Click the small “Log In” icon on the top right of the screen
  2. Enter your SID (Student ID #) and your PIN
  3. Click on the “MySouth” Icon on the top middle part of your screen (or on the bottom right on your phone). It will bring you to a student dashboard where you can take care of a lot of student-related tasks.
  4. Make sure that the correct quarter is the quarter listed in the top left corner of the screen.
  5. Click on the “Register Now-Add Class” option in the top row. It’ll prompt you to answer some demographic questions. After that, enter your Item Number and register for the class.
  6. Proceed to paying for the class in the method you deem most appropriate for you.

(4) How do I pay tuition?

Answer: If you are paying the apprenticeship tuition yourself, the easiest option during the COVID-19 campus closure is to pay online. Please contact me if you have any questions about paying your tuition.

Here’s the link to pay for tuition: MySouth account

  1. Click the small “Log In” icon on the top right of the screen
  2. Enter your SID (Student ID #) and your PIN

  4. Please select “Pay Tuition.” Either select the appropriate quarter or "All Quarters." Then select “Get Charges.” You should see your tuition/fee balance.
  5. Enter credit/debit card information in payment screen.

(5) Are there any options to help me pay my tuition?

Answer: If an apprentice is responsible to pay their own tuition, they might be eligible to request assistance from several programs. You can always email me if you want to learn more about these options.

  • Worker Retraining Grant: For apprentices who are collecting Unemployment Insurance (UI), they might be eligible for tuition assistance through the Worker Retraining Grant at the college. Here is their webpage. They have developed an online form to assist students during the campus closure.
  • ANEW grant assistance: For some first and second year apprentices, they can receive assistance with tuition and other potential emergency assistance through a special American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) grant administered by ANEW. Contact me for details.
  • If you are a member of a union, you might also want to check with them directly to see if they have any tuition assistance programs. Your employer might also have some tuition assistance options.
  • While not for paying tuition, the Benefits Hub program can help with connecting you to other public benefits (ORCA lift, health insurance, SNAP/EBT food benefits, etc.) and other types of emergency funding.

(6) How do I get a receipt that confirms that I paid my tuition?

Answer: Log into your MySouth account and go to the student dashboard. If you select the correct quarter and choose the "View Schedule" you should see your schedule for that quarter with the total charges, total amount paid, and the balance due. Please note that some mobile devices don't provide all these details in the "View Schedule" page, so you might need to log into your account from a computer. If both these options don't work, please contact me.

(7) How do I get my South Seattle College email address?

Answer: Every student gets an email account. If you don't know your email account information, please follow this link and click on "Get My Credentials."

(8) What are some potential next steps in my education?

Answer: While enrolled in their apprenticeship programs, most apprentices are also eligible to pursue a Multi-Occupational Trades  AAS-T degree
